The Exhilaration Horn System - bringing the transients and clarity of live music to
your listening room....
Big, open, effortless... The Exhilaration is a concept speaker brought to
fruition. The midrange (from 125 Hz all the way up) is covered by the mighty
Azura horn loaded by a Lowther DX-4 with a special wooden phase plug. The expansion
of the horn is that of Jean Michel LeCleac'h - a faster expansion than even the famed
tractrix. This is a horn that preserves horn dynamics, but sounds like no horn at
all.
For the bass (125 Hz and down) I then employed a bass horn built by John Sheerin.
For such a magnificent midrange horn deserves a real bass horn, and cannot be matched by a
mere direct radiator. The horn is loaded with a JBL 2226 and capable of producing
SPL's appropriate for a music club. Therefore, at home listening levels, the
distortion is vanishingly low. Such a bass horn has an output equal to an array of
four 18" subwoofers! Once you have heard the clean, crisp sound of true horn
loaded bass, all other speakers instantly sound "wrong." Ask the
competition if they use true horn loading all the way down - they will say,
"No."
